Dental implants are a better solution when dealing with missing teeth. Esthetic Dental Implants are like natural tooth roots and actually integrate into bone structure. There is no bone loss or recession of the gums, as there may be with bridges and dentures. Tooth-Saving Dental Implants do not need existing teeth to act as an anchor for support, as a bridge does. This is more beneficial to your oral health. Confidence Dental Implants enable you to speak normally and confidently. They stay secure within the mouth and will not wobble or click, as dentures might. You won’t have to worry about messy glues or pastes, or lost or misplaced dentures. Dental implants are an excellent way to replace missing teeth.
Ideal candidates for implants are individuals in general good health who also have good oral health. Adequate bone is needed within the jaw to properly support the implant, and the gums should be healthy and free of infection.
What are the steps in preparation for dental implants?
The following steps will be taken before surgery.
• Clinical examination and patient evaluation are done.
• X-ray stints are made and study models are taken.
• Necessary X-rays are taken through Simplant software.
• Surgical stints are fabricated.
• Consultations with restoration laboratory and restorative dentists are done.
After the implants have been placed, it may take from two to four months for the bone to heal. If there is augmented bone, those areas may take from six to eight months for healing to occur. In those cases where the bone proves to be dense enough, surgical techniques that are minimally invasive will be performed, and the implant with a temporary crown will be placed immediately following surgery.
Periodontal surgery is necessary in those cases where non-surgical procedures cannot effectively treat the unhealthy condition of the tissues surrounding the teeth.
Instructions provided by our dentist need to be followed. In most cases, normal activities can be resumed the next day following surgery. Our periodontist can provide you with any special post-operative information you will be required to know, including exercise, diet and the need for any medications.
A number of insurance plans will cover a portion of periodontal surgery. Periodontal health is critically important to your overall health, so be certain to speak to our periodontist concerning payment options that are available.
There will be no pain as the proper anesthetics will be used during surgery. We can also offer sedation to further relax you. We do not hurry the process of anesthetizing, as we want your experience to be comfortable and pleasant for you.
There are different anesthetics available, including intravenous and general sedation administered by our anesthesiologist. Your systemic condition and the length of the procedure will be taken into consideration when determining the type of anesthetic to be used.
There may be some pain and tenderness from one to five days following the procedure, for which you will receive the proper prescription for pain medication. The medication will also help with any existing sensitivity.
To help decrease pain and accelerate the healing process, alcoholic beverages, excessive exercise, spicy foods and smoking should be avoided. An adequate diet should be maintained, and plenty of liquids will help to replenish blood loss. Also, remember to chew on the opposite side of the area where surgery was performed, and avoid hard food when eating.
